Film Critque - Coraline

Coraline is a Claymation about a young girl who isn't satisfied with her life, and is almost overcome by greed when she finds out what her life would be like if it was perfect. The film deals with the emotions of selfishness and greed. It is a bit of a scary movie, when in reality just shows what can happen when a person feeds off emotions and needs someone's love to survive.
The quality of the film Coraline isn't as great as many films since it is a stop motion Claymation, at times the characters are choppy looking, but overall the amount of detail put into the scenes and characters is amazing. The character development is quite visible in this movie (ex. The "other mother" slowly turning into a love-thirsty spider, Coraline slowly realizing how great her life is, and the parents finally giving their daughter some attention.) This movie was obviously made for younger kids, but the overall theme of the movie is quite adult.
Coraline is a phenomenal movie in getting the point of selfishness across, but I think they could've made some of the characters stronger, Bobinsky and Miss April and Miriam could've had more background and have more affect on the plot line because they seemed to just be fillers. Wybie also had barely any background to him as a character and the adding of this grandmother made no sense. This movie was great on story line but the characters could have a bit more background.
