Film Critque - Coraline

Coraline is a Claymation about a young girl who isn't satisfied with her life, and is almost overcome by greed when she finds out what her life would be like if it was perfect. The film deals with the emotions of selfishness and greed. It is a bit of a scary movie, when in reality just shows what can happen when a person feeds off emotions and needs someone's love to survive.
The quality of the film Coraline isn't as great as many films since it is a stop motion Claymation, at times the characters are choppy looking, but overall the amount of detail put into the scenes and characters is amazing. The character development is quite visible in this movie (ex. The "other mother" slowly turning into a love-thirsty spider, Coraline slowly realizing how great her life is, and the parents finally giving their daughter some attention.) This movie was obviously made for younger kids, but the overall theme of the movie is quite adult.
Coraline is a phenomenal movie in getting the point of selfishness across, but I think they could've made some of the characters stronger, Bobinsky and Miss April and Miriam could've had more background and have more affect on the plot line because they seemed to just be fillers. Wybie also had barely any background to him as a character and the adding of this grandmother made no sense. This movie was great on story line but the characters could have a bit more background.

A lonely widow rented a room in a hotel by a lake. As she was finding her way to her room, she met a guy who was in the room next to hers and fell in love. They spent the night together and the woman believed this guy was the one. He was married though, and couldn't tell her. They spent the whole week  having fun and rowing boats in the crystal clear lake. One night the woman woke up to find him out of bed. The confused widow looked out to see him with his real wife, by the lake. Distressed and angry because he had lied, the woman went out and started screeching at the man and his wife. They just laughed at her and called her pathetic. She rushed at the wife, clawing at her face and dragging her into the lake, but the man quickly jumped in and saved his wife, strangling the widow and leaving her to drown. The angry widows spirit now lurks around the lake by the hotel, many reported sights of unexplained drowning's and sights of a woman with bruises around her neck have been around this hotel. They say she targets married couples, and many women wake up with bright red scratches all over them.

Magazine Cover

I used the idea of having a main image on my magazine and a "headliner"to attract people to read my magazine. I used the refined edge tool on all of the people to make the edges look more blended in when I cropped it. I also put a "celebrity" type figure in my magazine to let people read gossip about the person.

Logo for Adams Alphas *Before Requirement Change*

I would have used these logos if i could use text in the logo design. Unfortunately I read the requirements on schoology wrong. So these are the before designs.

Logo for Adams Alphas *After*

I changed my design slighty so i could meet the no text and three colors requirements. I used the same two wolves as the first logo and gave them a "moon" to howl at. I used Adobe Kular to choose the colors the team selected. I used the eraser tool and the free selection tool (magic wand) to make it look like a wolf reflection. I used the color information in the article and the simplicity idea to create this simple design of a wolf or "alpha" wolf. I did take this wolf outline off of the internet, but i changed it so that it wouldnt look like the original design. I fi had kept the wolf exactly how I found it opnline it would be copywriting and it would be illegal.

Comic Strip

I created this comic strip using multiple tools in the Adobe Photoshop application. I selected the object I wanted using the wand tool and selecting what I wanted to color. I then used the brush tool and colored in only what I selected because thats what the magic wand tool allowed me to do. I used the text tool to type in the words to have the comic make what little sense it does make. I used a play on the word "hat" to make the comic be punny. Before starting to add in characters I duplicated a selection in order to make the boxes that the characters would go in.

Eddie the Donkey.

I used Photoshop to make this project. I used the brush tool to fade Eddie back into the barn. I also used the brush tool to make the dune grass around Eddies barn. I dragged all the images onto the background image after using the selection tool to get rid of their original background. Honestly i just had to follow the instructions to get this project done, not much thought went into it, except for when i had to selcet the grass to change the hue of it.

Eddie on the Moon.

This was very simple to do. I went on google images and typed in "moon backgrounds" and placed it behind Eddie.

Eddie in a Spaceship.

I hid Eddies barn and put him in a spaceship. He is kind of hanging out of the spaceship, and about to crash, but its ok because he's Eddie. I used the polygonal selection tool to crop Eddies legs out.

Thor Movie Poster

I used photoshop and multiple pictures to create this movie poster. The tool I most used was the opacity tool, this tool allowed the pictures the fade into the background. I also used the eraser tool and the cropping tool to get rid of the lines around the pictures. To put Madison's face in the picture I copied and pasted the picture onto my poster and faded it in to look real. The characters I used where Thor, Loki, the Dark Elves, Jane, Odin and Heimdall. I actually had a different idea for the poster when i started it, but it ended out like this.

aimt

My design is an alligator that I created using adobe Photoshop and my first, middle and last initials. I learned how to put an alligator print design on my three letters and then move them around using free transform to make the letters look like the alligator. I came up with the idea by realizing that a capital A sideways looks like a mouth. The m looks like an alligators eyes. The t was difficult I had to mirror the image of a sideways t. I used the text tool and I had tried to use the brush tool but since it was an alligator it was pretty pointless trying to put fur on him. Next time I want to make more animals and make them look realistic with the brush tool.
